C. Series: Public Art Porject

C. Series (Commuting Series) is a documentary series that captures the people who are commuting throughout Toronto. The series will be taken on Toronto’s public transit systems, like the bus, subway, or streetcar, as t his condo development will be at Yonge and College where most residents will probably also be commuters on public transit. C . Series is captured using an everyday smartphone camera instead of a high end camera as it is a familiar object where most people own a smartphone of their own. Downtown Toronto has become a place where many choose to travel by public transit over driving. C . Series offers the public a more nuanced consideration of the act of travelling by public transit and can be more than just a rush to a destination. Through a series of individual works, the people of Toronto will be the main subjects to this series. This collection of multiple images will capture the interiors of buses, streetcars and subways at different times of day. There are moments where the entire vehicle would be occupied only by a single patron and moments where they carry the maximum capacity amount of people. The plan is to juxtapose the images on different sides of the wall. On the wall that faces Yonge Street will feature images during the slow and empty time of day where there are one to three subject in frame. While on the wall facing Grenville Street will feature images during the rush hours on public transit. This juxtaposes the small street of Grenville and foreshadow how busy Grenville Street will become after the construction and opening of the condo.
